He is also affiliated with the Centre for Research in Music and its Technologies, where he contributes to interdisciplinary explorations of sound-architecture relationships.
- Education: PhD (Oxford Brookes University) in Experiential Encounters with Architecture and Sound; MSc in Sound and Music Production from Oxford Brookes University
Colbert's research investigates the interplay between sound, space, and architecture through field recording, experimental performance, and visual art. His work employs Henri Lefebvre's rhythmanalysis to study urban soundscapes, integrating philosophy, contemporary performance, and sound studies. Current projects address the sustainable development goal of Quality Education through music pedagogy and technology.
His recent outputs include the 2024 exhibition Exhibition of Scrolls, 2023 audio-visual artifact Put The Needle On The Record, and 2022 publication exploring musical experiences during the pandemic. These works demonstrate interdisciplinary connections between sound art, cultural theory, and technological innovation.
Colbert teaches across multiple domains including Inside The Music Business, Performance Skills, Applied Performance, and Sonic Arts and Electronica. He actively supervises PhD students and integrates his industry experience as a founding member of band RIDE into academic practice.
His creative practice encompasses crowdsourced sound projects, vinyl releases, and immersive performances exhibited at festivals like Audiograft and Independent Venue Week. The innovative use of improvised styli to 'perform the city' has advanced understanding of urban rhythm perception and street art intersections.
