Ciaran Clarke is a Lecturer at Falmouth University, where he has taught since 2018 across disciplines including Acting, Theatre & Performance, Technical Theatre Arts, and Musical Theatre. His academic role is intertwined with a freelance practice as an actor, theatre maker, and sound designer.
Research interests include the intersection of performance and digital technologies, sound studies, and spatial audio. His PhD explores the spoken voice, recording technologies, and their relationship to death, submitted as a vocal document on vinyl records.
Ciaran’s professional work bridges technology and performance, exemplified by projects like binaural audio design for Jordan Brookes' acclaimed stand-up shows and a Technology Residency at Kneehigh Theatre. He secured funding from Storyfutures Academy to develop VR performance work with students.
He co-founded Near-ta Theatre, contributing to collaborative projects such as the annual musical comedy Christmas. Time.
