Lauren M. Bylsma, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She holds dual appointments in the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Psychology. Her research focuses on developmental affective science, integrating neurophysiological, behavioral, and ecological assessments to understand emotional regulation in youth and adults at risk for depression. She co-directs the Center for Advanced Psychotherapy (CAP) and leads the Helping Overcome Prodromal Experiences (HOPE) TEAM clinic, specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and innovative clinical care for complex psychiatric conditions.
Dr. Bylsma’s education includes a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida, followed by postdoctoral training in child psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. She has received prestigious awards such as the Society for Psychophysiological Research (SPR) Fellowship and the APAHC Mid-Career Psychologist Award. Her work emphasizes translational research, including studies on wearable device validation and ambulatory psychophysiology, aiming to bridge lab findings with real-world clinical applications.
Her research interests span emotional reactivity, reward processes, and the role of sleep in psychopathology. She leads projects funded by the NIH, including the Autism Center of Excellence grant examining mental health in autistic adults. Dr. Bylsma is also committed to education and mentoring, supervising trainees in CBT and contributing to academic health center initiatives through her SPR committee roles.
