Lauren Hynicka

Dr. Lauren Hynicka is an Associate Professor in the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. She holds a PharmD from the University of Pittsburgh and completed PGY-1 and PGY-2 pharmacy residencies at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her clinical practice focuses on infectious disease management, particularly viral hepatitis C and chronic liver diseases. She previously served as a clinical pharmacy specialist at the University of Maryland Medical Center and now manages HCV treatment for Maryland Medicaid patients.

Her research interests include optimizing HCV treatment pathways, improving care transitions, and addressing healthcare disparities. Notable projects include streamlining HCV medication prior authorization processes and evaluating treatment interruptions. She has authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles on pharmacotherapy, antimicrobial stewardship, and case reports of drug-induced conditions.

Dr. Hynicka’s scholarly activity spans hepatitis C treatment strategies, nephrotoxicity of antimicrobials, and respiratory syncytial virus prophylaxis. Her work emphasizes practical clinical solutions, such as improving medication safety and access for underserved populations.
