Jeffrey J Weiss, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, General Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He serves as Director of the Hepatitis C Clinical & Research Program within the Division of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Weiss is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience providing care to persons with infectious diseases in the United States and Europe. His research focuses on behavioral interventions to improve quality and length of life for patients with infectious diseases.
His work primarily centers on HIV/HCV coinfection, addiction, and behavioral aspects of chronic disease management. Dr. Weiss developed the Psychosocial Readiness Evaluation and Preparation for Hepatitis C Treatment (PREP-C), an open-access web-based provider tool for assessing patient readiness for Hepatitis C treatment.
His research includes an NIH-funded study (R34 MH099930) focused on improving HCV treatment uptake and adherence in HIV/HCV coinfection, addressing how end-stage liver disease from HCV remains a leading cause of death among HIV-positive individuals despite curative treatments.
Dr. Weiss holds an AB from Stanford University and an MS from Fairleigh Dickinson University, with a Clinical Psychology Internship from Michael Reese Hospital & Medical Center. He has published 39 publications with research spanning infectious disease management, addiction treatment, and the intersection of mental health with chronic physical conditions.
