Lauren Albin serves as the Director of the O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium and an Instructor of Astronomy at Young Harris College. She joined the institution in 2022, bringing expertise in telescopes, star lore, and poetry. Prior to this role, she worked at the Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta, GA, in their planetarium and observatory divisions.
Lauren holds an M.S. in Space Studies from American Public University, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Arizona State University, and a B.A. in English Literature with a focus on Creative Writing from Agnes Scott College.
Her academic and creative work spans astronomy education, including courses like “Introduction to the Solar System” and “Beyond the Solar System,” which she teaches to both Young Harris College and Young Harris Early College students. She also specializes in Korean poetry translation and is a published poet. Under her leadership, the YHC observatory has been opened to students, local schools, and the broader community.
Lauren’s research and creative interests intersect astronomy and literature, emphasizing public engagement with STEM and the arts. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and furthering her work in poetry and translation.
