Laurel Lynch is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Soil and Water Systems at the University of Idaho, affiliated with the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Colorado State University (2017) and a B.A. from St. Olaf College (2012). Her research focuses on ecosystem ecology, biogeochemistry, and climate change impacts, particularly in Arctic tundra, subalpine rivers, and eucalypt forests.
Key research themes include carbon cycle dynamics, plant-microbe interactions, and watershed metabolomics. Lynch's interdisciplinary approach combines field and lab experiments to study organic matter formation, nutrient cycling, and microbial community responses to environmental change. Her work also explores how disturbances like wildfire, scavenger declines, and logjams influence ecosystem function.
Her lab, the Experimental Ecosystem Ecology Lab, investigates terrestrial carbon dynamics and nutrient cycling in diverse ecosystems.
