معرفی
Professor Iain Hartley is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Exeter. His research focuses on ecosystem responses to global change, particularly carbon cycle feedbacks, permafrost dynamics, and tropical forest productivity. He leads projects on Arctic tundra, Amazon rainforests, and soil microbial responses to warming. Collaborations include the AmazonFACE project and NERC Radiocarbon Facility steering committee.
Education: BSc Environmental Biology (University of St Andrews), MRes Ecology and Environmental Biology (University of York), PhD in soil respiration-temperature relationships (University of York).
Research interests include carbon-nutrient interactions, methane fluxes, and radiocarbon applications in carbon cycle studies. He investigates how temperature and CO2 affect decomposition, plant productivity, and soil carbon storage. Current projects explore microbial community shifts, permafrost thaw impacts, and nutrient limitations in Amazon forests.
Funding includes grants from NERC and UK DECC. He emphasizes experimental ecology, using manipulations and stable isotopes to study diverse ecosystems. His work bridges field observations with modeling for global change prediction.
