معرفی
Eero Myrsky serves as a Visiting Researcher at the Arctic Centre's Global Change Research unit within the University of Lapland. His academic work focuses on understanding how climate change affects Arctic and subarctic ecosystems through examining vegetation dynamics, soil processes, and microbial communities.
His research interests span plant biology, microbiology, and virology with specific emphasis on tundra ecosystems, ecosystem respiration, and vegetation shifts in response to warming. Myrsky's fingerprint reveals strong specialization in ecotone dynamics (100%), tundra environments (92%), ecosystem respiration (92%), graminoid vegetation (71%), deciduous plant communities (62%), and subarctic ecosystems (58%).
Analysis of Myrsky's recent publications shows consistent focus on how warming temperatures affect carbon cycling in Arctic environments. His research demonstrates how vegetation changes (particularly shrubification) alter soil microbial communities and nutrient cycling, with significant implications for understanding carbon feedbacks in a warming climate. The 2024 Nature paper represents a major contribution showing environmental drivers of increased ecosystem respiration in warming tundra.
Myrsky has participated in two significant research projects funded by the Research Council of Finland: HISTECO (2019-2023), which used historical sites to predict long-term boreal and subarctic ecosystem change, and a project examining how shifts in soil microbial life strategies influence soil carbon stocks (2019-2021).
