Laura Wild is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Durham University. She holds leadership roles including Curriculum, Assessment and Student Experience (CASE) Programme Lead for the UG programme and leads the Primary Mathematics Education team. Her career spans 15 years in primary education in Yorkshire, where she served as Executive Deputy Headteacher and completed the NPQH. She has extensive experience in school improvement through roles in a Trust School Improvement Team and as Curriculum Development Project Lead for a Local Authority.
Her research focuses on mixed-age classroom pedagogy, mastery approaches in primary mathematics, and the role of questioning in teaching. She collaborates with the Centre for Professional Development (CDP) and outreach initiatives to advance participant-centered learning strategies in teacher education. Her work emphasizes evidence-based practices and community engagement through small schools' roles in local communities.
Professional affiliations include the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), where she contributed to workshop design and evaluation at local/national levels. Her teaching responsibilities include the PGCE and BA Primary Education programmes, with a leadership module focus.
Laura actively investigates pedagogical tools like direct feedback mechanisms and systemic knowledge assessment in mathematics education, maintaining partnerships with schools to implement practical classroom solutions.
