Laura Stagno is a Full Professor of Modern Art History at the University of Genoa's Department of Italian, Romance, Classical, Arts, and Entertainment Studies (DIRAAS). She serves as Deputy Director of her department and holds memberships in the Academic Senate and School Council for the School of Humanities.
Her research expertise centers on modern art history, with particular focus on iconography and iconology, the history of collecting, and Ligurian art from the modern age. She investigates how visual narratives encode cultural meanings, especially in Renaissance and Baroque contexts, examining both individual artworks and broader artistic movements.
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent exploration of Genoese artistic heritage, examining themes ranging from mythological representations to political iconography. These works reveal her deep engagement with the intersection of art, politics, and cultural identity in early modern Italy.
Recent Publications: Her 2024 publications include studies on Alexander the Great's iconography, Prometheus in Genoese palace decoration, Andrea Doria's political imagery, and works by the Flemish painter Cornelis de Wael.
Teaching: Professor Stagno teaches courses on Iconography and Iconology, Modern Art Themes, History of Liguria's Art, and History of Collecting at both undergraduate and master's levels. Her courses emphasize the critical interpretation of visual culture and the preservation of artistic heritage.
