Dr. Laura Porter is an early career Research Fellow in the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute at Monash University, specializing in prostate cancer research with a focus on translational approaches for urology and oncology. Her work involves developing clinically relevant models, such as patient-derived xenografts (PDX), to study tumor pathology and preclinical therapies. She leads and contributes to projects like the Melbourne Urological Research Alliance (MURAL), one of Australia's largest PDX collections. Her research has driven a Phase I clinical trial for novel drug combinations and influenced international clinical guidelines for prostate cancer assessment.
Dr. Porter’s expertise includes optimizing immunotherapy and radioligand therapy for prostate cancer. She is funded by grants including the Cancer Council Victoria Postdoctoral Fellowship, NHMRC Ideas Grant, and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Award. Recent projects include enhancing CAR T cell efficacy via carboplatin and studying tumor microenvironment modulation. She collaborates widely in Australia and globally.
Key awards include the Cancer Council Victoria Postdoctoral Fellowship, NHMRC Ideas Grant, and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Award. Her research bridges preclinical models with clinical outcomes, emphasizing theranostics and novel therapeutic strategies for PSMA-negative prostate cancer.
Dr. Porter’s work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being. She oversees projects such as “Shifting from cold to warm” to improve immunotherapy efficacy and “Up-Front PSMA” for early prostate cancer eradication.
