Dr. Laura Lonsdale is an Associate Professor in Modern Spanish Literature and Fellow of The Queen's College at the University of Oxford. She also serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. Her research focuses on translation, multilingualism in Spanish and Latin American literature, and women's writing. She teaches modern Spanish literature from the 19th century to the present and supervises PhD students such as Kittie Helmick, co-supervised with Prof. Elleke Boehmer. Key publications include Multilingualism and Modernity (2018) and co-editing The Routledge Companion to Iberian Studies (2017). Her work spans topics like barbarism in literature, exile narratives, and cultural hybridity. She has presented at conferences globally, including keynotes on multilingualism in world literatures. Dr. Lonsdale’s translations include works by Ana María Matute and Ramón del Valle-Inclán. She contributes to podcasts discussing literary translation and Spanish literature.
