Reyes Lazaro

Reyes Lazaro is an Associate Professor of Spanish at Smith College. She specializes in contemporary Spanish literature, culture, and language, with a focus on comparative literature. Her research explores the interconnectedness of storytelling across cultures, peripheral literatures of the Iberian Peninsula, and intersections of national identity and gender ideologies.

• Education: Ph.D. and M.A. from University of Massachusetts Amherst; B.A. from Universidad de Deusto, Spain.

Her scholarly work includes publications on 20th-century Spanish fiction writers such as Ramón del Valle-Inclán, Luis Martín-Santos, and Rosa Chacel. She is currently working on a book titled "Don Juan and the Spanish National Conquest," analyzing Don Juan narratives in 20th-century Spain through the lens of competing nationalisms and gender ideologies. Additionally, she is preparing a book chapter examining immigrant experiences in contemporary Spanish literature and film.
