Dr. Laura Higson-Bliss is a Lecturer in Law at Keele University’s School of Law, part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from Edge Hill University (2019) and an LLM by Research (2016). Her research focuses on criminal law applications to online behavior, particularly social media regulation and legal responses to online abuse. She is a member of Keele’s Faculty Ethics Committee and leads the Law and Ethics strand of the Digital Society Institute. Additionally, she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and active in legal education reform, notably through game-based learning initiatives. Laura has contributed to policy discussions via submissions to the Law Commission and House of Lords, and she advises on the Online Safety Bill. Her outreach includes media appearances (BBC, Euronews) and collaborations with Cheshire Police to educate youth on legal risks of social media misuse. She supervises PhD students on topics like digital contact in child welfare and youth perceptions of online harms. Awards include the 2023 Keele Excellence Award for External Engagement with Research.
