Laura Elrick is an Associate Professor in the Department of Writing at Pratt Institute's School of Liberal Arts & Sciences. They hold a BA in Media and Communication from the University of Southern California and an MA in Liberal Studies from The Graduate Center, CUNY, with a thesis titled “Affective Disobedience: Constructing Poetic Practice as Public Intervention.”
Elrick’s research focuses on poetry’s capacity to disrupt everyday structures and reimagine relational forms. Their creative works include full-length poetry collections like What This Breathing (2020) and performance pieces such as Blocks Away (2010) and Stalk (2008). Their scholarly essay “Poetry, Ecology and the Reappropriation of Lived Space” explores intersections of ecological thought and spatial poetics.
Teaching emphasizes form innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical contextualization of artistic practice. Their work has been translated into multiple languages and appears in anthologies like Viz. Inter-Arts Intervention and the Eco Language Reader.
Elrick advises students on writing projects across stages of development, prioritizing form experimentation and socio-political resonance in creative works.
