Dr Laura Crossley is a Senior Lecturer in Film at Bournemouth University, specializing in British film, cultural processes, and nostalgia studies. Her research focuses on spy fictions, Cold War narratives, and gender politics in media. She co-edits the 'Routledge Studies in Espionage and Culture' series and is affiliated with the BAFTSS Special Interest Group on British Film and Television. Laura teaches modules like Narrative Constructions and Principles of Storytelling in film programs.
Her education includes a PhD in Screen Studies (University of Manchester, 2009), MA in Screen Studies (2004), and BA in Theatre Studies (University of Lancaster, 2002). Laura's research explores intersections between film and cultural identity, with recent projects analyzing stuntwomen in Bond films and feminist reinterpretations of superhero narratives.
Her publications span journals like Journal of British Cinema and Television and Journal of Popular Film and Television, focusing on postmodernism, post-colonialism, and cultural nostalgia. She has presented at numerous conferences, including discussions on Cold War fictions and aging action stars.
Laura supervises PhD students such as Kuihua Zhang and actively engages in outreach through public lectures and media commentary on topics like the Lord of the Rings franchise and gender representation in cinema. She maintains academic memberships with BAFTSS, MeCCSA, and the Society for Cinema and Media Studies.
