Laura Camfield is a **Professor Research Associate** at the **School of Global Development, University of East Anglia (UEA)**. She holds roles such as Head of School (2018–present) and chairs the SeNSS DTP International Development Pathway. Her expertise spans wellbeing, mixed methods research, poverty, children/young people, and research ethics. She teaches on impact evaluation and gender research modules and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Education: PhD in Social Anthropology (Goldsmiths, University of London) and MA in Anthropology of Development (SOAS). Prior roles include Research Fellowships at Young Lives (Oxford) and the Wellbeing in Developing Countries ESRC Group (Bath).
Research Interests: Enhancing methodologies for cross-national research with children/youth in the Global South (via GAGE programme), mixed methods evaluations, and ethical research practices. Current projects address poverty dynamics, resilience, and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Key Achievements: Supervised 12 completed doctoral students and currently advises seven. Awarded the SENSS ESRC +3.5 Award (2021). Media engagements include advocating for global vaccine equity and critiquing DfID merger policies.
Collaborations: Active in networks like EADI, Development Studies Association, and Palgrave Macmillan’s 'Anthropology, Change and Development' book series. Leads research on poverty, wellbeing, and evaluation methodologies across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
