Dr. Laura Batinelli is a clinical academic midwife and lecturer at City, University of London, where she has worked since 2017. She is affiliated with the Midwifery Department and the Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research (CMCHR). As a full-time lecturer, she contributes to undergraduate midwifery programs and masters' courses like the Global Maternal Health MSc and Enhanced Midwifery Practice MSc. She serves as the Practice Education Lead and research seminars coordinator.
Her PhD (completed in 2023) focused on implementing midwifery units in medicalized maternity settings, using Participatory Action Research (PAR) and Implementation Science in a European context (Italy). Her research emphasizes organizational, professional, and cultural challenges in adopting evidence-based maternal care models in high-income countries.
Laura maintains clinical practice in London’s NHS, specializing in intrapartum care in high-risk settings and alongside midwifery units. She holds a BSc and Master’s in Midwifery from Italian universities (University of Siena and Florence) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Academic Practice from City, University of London.
Proficient in English and Italian for academic and clinical work, her expertise spans maternal health systems in Europe.
