Jaime Sutherland is a Midwifery Teaching Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Surrey, where she joined the teaching team in September 2015. She concurrently works as a practicing midwife at Frimley Park Hospital, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Her roles include Module Leader for 'Skills for Midwifery Practice Becoming an Autonomous Practitioner' and Practice Link Tutor at Frimley Park Hospital. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Midwifery (2006) and an MSc in Advanced Practice (Midwifery) (2012) from the University of Surrey, alongside a Postgraduate Certificate in Education for Professional Practice (2016).
Her research focuses on obesity during pregnancy and the postpartum period, addressing maternal health challenges through evidence-based practice. Jaime’s clinical expertise spans over a decade, including roles as a clinical midwife practitioner, Supervisor of Midwives (SoM), mentor, and advanced newborn assessor in busy maternity units. She integrates clinical practice with education, teaching across all levels (4–7) and emphasizing simulation-based learning in midwifery skills.
Jaime advocates for woman-centered care, delivering high-quality antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal support. Her work bridges academic and clinical environments, fostering professional development among midwifery students and practitioners.
