Lars Skov Henriksen is a Professor of Sociology at Aalborg University and Vice Head of Department for Research at the Department of Sociology and Social Work. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Conditions from Aalborg University (1995). His research focuses on civil society, welfare policies, volunteer engagement, and climate mobilization, with recent emphasis on intersections between social movements and environmental organizations.
Key projects include the VELUX FOUNDATION-funded Match: Recruitment and Retention of Volunteers (2020–2022) and the CIVIC project on labour market inclusion through civic participation (2021–2024). He leads the CASTOR research group and has served on boards of the National Center for Voluntary Social Work and the Danish National Centre for Social Research (VIVE).
His work spans 151 publications in journals like Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly and Journal of Civil Society. He advises on four PhD projects and contributes to policy dialogues on welfare architecture and voluntarism. Current roles include leadership in the Green Conflicts to Green Publics and Situated Co-produced Family Caregiving initiatives.
Research interests bridge macro-institutional analyses and micro-level engagement, emphasizing Nordic welfare state dynamics and civil society transformations. His work addresses challenges of mainstreaming volunteerism, hybridity in social services, and the evolving role of civil society in climate action.
