Lars Egevad is a Professor at Karolinska Institutet, leading the Urological Cancer Research Group within the Department of Oncology-Pathology. He holds a Docent degree from Karolinska Institutet (2001) and has been a Professor/Senior Physician since 2010. His primary focus is prostate and kidney cancer research, with emphasis on biomarkers, grading standards, and AI-assisted pathology. He co-leads the CRisP and CAGEKID consortia and actively participates in international standardization efforts via the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) and European Network of Urological Pathology (ENUP).
Research interests include prostate cancer prognosis, renal cell carcinoma biology, and improving diagnostic accuracy through standardized grading systems and digital pathology tools. His work spans over 500 publications, addressing topics like Gleason score validation, AI in diagnostics, and treatment outcomes.
Collaborations include global initiatives like the ICGC, and he emphasizes translating research into clinical practice through initiatives like the Pathology Imagebase. His research group also explores the utility of macroscopic examination and genetic profiling in cancer assessment.
