Professor Larry T. Bates is a Professor of Law and holds the Gerald Reading Powell Chair in Advocacy at Baylor University's Baylor Law School. He transitioned to academia after nine years as a corporate bankruptcy specialist, advising on high-profile cases like Zales Jewelers and National Gypsum. His teaching focuses on Contracts, Commercial Law (including domestic/international sales and secured transactions), and he advises the Baylor Law Review. He coaches moot court teams and serves on the ABA's National Appellate Advocacy Competition committee.
Education: J.D. (magna cum laude, Marquette University, 1983), B.A. (magna cum laude, University of Minnesota, 1978), LL.M. (Harvard Law School, 1986). He clerked for Judge John L. Coffey (7th Circuit) and served as an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University School of Law (1994).
