Larry Hildebrand is an Adjunct Professor and Special Advisor for the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute at the World Maritime University, Sweden. With a Ph.D. in Coastal and Ocean Governance from Cardiff University, he specializes in Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management, Maritime Spatial Planning, Marine Environmental Protection, and Capacity Building. A former Canadian Chair in Marine Environment Protection, he has taught at the graduate level for over 25 years and supervised Masters and Ph.D. students.

Hildebrand’s research focuses on coastal resilience, Arctic governance, and marine environmental protection. His recent work includes frameworks for climate adaptation in coastal communities, Arctic shipping sustainability, and Mediterranean oil pollution policies. He has contributed to international agreements like the Arctic Search and Rescue Treaty and the Central Arctic Ocean Fisheries Declaration.
