Larissa Katz is a Professor of Law and the Cecil A. Wright Chairholder at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. She held a Canada Research Chair in Private Law Theory (2014-2024) and served as Associate Dean (Graduate Programs). She is cross-appointed to the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

Her research focuses on private law theory, property law, equity, and legal philosophy. She explores the conceptual foundations of ownership, the role of equity in rights-based systems, and the intersection of property with political and social institutions.
Recent publications examine the rule of law in property contexts, equitable remedies, and the institutional roles of ownership. Her forthcoming book People and Things: Property in the Legal Order (OUP) synthesizes these themes.
