Lara Campbell is a Professor in the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at Simon Fraser University (SFU), affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a BA in History and BSW from McMaster University, an MA in History from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in History from Queen’s University. Her research focuses on Canadian women’s history, social protest, and feminist theory, with notable works on the suffrage movement and Great Depression family dynamics. She has held leadership roles, including Department Chair, Graduate Chair, and Associate Dean, and co-organizes the Café Minerva public history initiative. Awards include the Dean’s Medal for Academic Excellence (2015) and the Marion Dewar Prize (2011).
Her teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses on gender history, feminist theory, and social protest. She has supervised doctoral and master’s students in areas like feminist activism, sex work, and racialized violence. Current research explores Vietnam War resistance and suffrage history. She collaborates on interdisciplinary projects and public engagement, emphasizing the intersection of gender, politics, and social justice.
