Dr Landon Peck is a Researcher at the University of Sheffield's School of Languages, Arts and Societies, affiliated with the Music department. He holds a DPhil in Music from the University of Oxford (2023) and prior degrees from Indiana University (BA Religious Studies) and the University of Sheffield (MA Psychology of Music). His research focuses on musical awe, the sublime, music perception/cognition, religious music, aesthetics, and environmentalism.
Research interests include analyzing sonic components of awe-inspiring music, cognitive models of musical emotion, and music's role in identity formation and environmental activism. He contributes to the Influencing Environmental Values through Music (MusEnv) and Music Mind Machine (MMM) groups. Professional activities include chairing the International Conference of Students of Systematic Musicology (SysMus) and leading research at Audicin.
Key publications explore empirical methods for studying musical awe, autobiographical musical experiences, and the psychological impact of sublime music. His work bridges cognitive science, musicology, and environmental ethics, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to music's societal and personal roles.
