Nicola Dibben is a Professor of Music and Faculty Director of Research and Innovation at the School of Languages, Arts and Societies, University of Sheffield. Her work bridges music cognition, popular music studies, and music digitalisation, with a focus on AI music generation, environmentalism, and social justice.
Her research explores how music engagement shapes identity, emotions, and environmental values, including collaborations with Björk on the Biophilia album-app and projects like MIMA (Machine Intelligence for Music and Audio). She investigates ethical AI tools for musicians and the psychological impacts of synthetic media.
