Lana Lin is an Associate Professor of Media Studies and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at The New School's Schools of Public Engagement. She holds an MFA from Bard College and a PhD from New York University. Her work bridges experimental film, artistic practice, and critical theory, focusing on intersections of race, gender, disability, and embodiment through cinematic arts and psychoanalytic frameworks.
Her research explores fragmented subjectivity through projects like The Cancer Journals Revisited, which won multiple awards. Lin has exhibited globally at institutions including the National Gallery of Art, MoMA, and Tate Modern. She leads courses on decolonizing documentary and media theory, and has curated exhibitions addressing postcolonial aesthetics and queer narratives.
Lin's creative practice includes collaborations under 'Lin + Lam' and solo projects examining transnational identities. She has received over a dozen prestigious fellowships including from MacDowell Colony and Wexner Center. Her 2017 monograph Freud's Jaw and Other Lost Objects redefines medical humanities through psychoanalytic cinema studies.
