Lajos Csincsik is a Research Fellow at Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, affiliated with the Centre for Public Health. His work focuses on retinal and neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's Disease, Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), and Down Syndrome. Csincsik's research employs advanced imaging techniques like Optical Coherence Tomography to investigate vascular and structural changes in the eye, linking these to systemic conditions.
His studies include the NaviSight project, examining how visual impairments from diabetic retinopathy and retinitis pigmentosa affect mobility in urban environments, and collaborations exploring retinal biomarkers for Alzheimer's. Csincsik's recent work highlights the predictive role of the 'double layer sign' in AMD progression and vascular insights from Down Syndrome as a proxy for Alzheimer's progression.
- Key Projects:
- BEAMS Study (Belfast Eye and Multiple Sclerosis Study)
- NaviSight Mobility Research
His published articles span topics like retinal fibrosis detection, choroidal calcification in pseudoxanthoma elasticum, and the utility of ultra-widefield imaging in dementia research. Csincsik received the prestigious James A. Craig Prize in 2023 for his contributions to ophthalmic research.
