Michael B. Gorin

Dr. Michael B. Gorin is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the David Geffen School of Medicine and a Professor in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He holds the Harold and Pauline Price Chair in Ophthalmology and is affiliated with the Jules Stein Eye Institute, Brain Research Institute, and CTSI Genetics & Genomics program. His clinical and research expertise spans medical retina, ophthalmic genetics, hereditary eye disorders, and retinal diagnostics.

Dr. Gorin's research focuses on the molecular genetics of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and inherited retinal dystrophies. He has made significant contributions to understanding genetic risk factors for AMD, including the role of complement system genes, TIMP3 variants, and lipid metabolism loci. His work extends to Usher syndrome, X-linked retinitis pigmentosa, and other monogenic retinal disorders, combining genomic approaches with clinical phenotyping.
