Laila Hlass is an Associate Professor at Tulane University School of Law and serves as Associate Provost for International Affairs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rice University (2001), Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School (2006), and Master of Laws from Georgetown University Law Center (2014). Her research examines the intersection of immigration law, education advocacy, and social justice, with particular emphasis on immigrant youth rights and deportation abolition.
Professor Hlass's scholarly work addresses systemic barriers in immigration systems, exploring how legal structures disproportionately impact vulnerable populations. Recent publications analyze racial justice in child immigration proceedings, critical lawyering approaches, and school-to-deportation pipelines. Her research methodology combines legal analysis with critical race theory and policy evaluation.
