LaToya Flint is an Assistant Professor of Accountancy at the University of Mississippi’s Patterson School of Accountancy. She holds a PhD in Accountancy from the University of Mississippi, an M.S. in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame, and a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Alabama. Prior to academia, she gained over a decade of audit experience in Big 4 firms, internal audit, and audit talent management.
Her research focuses on auditors’ and audit clients’ decision-making processes, diversity in accounting, and accounting education. Notable contributions include examining stakeholder influence on auditor leniency and the portrayal of under-represented minorities in textbooks. Flint has also explored media sensationalism’s impact on auditor ratification and internal auditor behavioral responses to remote work arrangements.

Flint’s awards include the 2023 AAA Vangermeersch Manuscript Award and multiple fellowships such as the AICPA Minority Doctoral Fellowship. Her work emphasizes advancing diversity and inclusion in the accounting profession, reflected in her research on minority representation and her leadership roles in professional organizations.
Her current research explores diversity initiatives in accounting education and audit judgment under regulatory frameworks like PCAOB’s NOCLAR proposals. She also investigates how organizational changes, such as remote work arrangements, affect internal audit functions and outcomes.
