LI Jing is an Associate Professor of Economics at Singapore Management University (SMU), serving as Pillar Lead for Urban Growth at the SMU Urban Institute and Director of the SMU-PHBS DBA Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Syracuse University (2013), with additional degrees in Finance and Business Administration from Harbin Institute of Technology, China. Her research focuses on urban economics, real estate finance, and health economics, with notable contributions to topics like urbanization, housing markets, and pandemic impacts.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Economics (Syracuse University, 2013), M.A. in Economics (Syracuse, 2010), M.A. in Finance (Harbin, 2008), and B.A. in Business (Harbin, 2006). She has held academic roles at SMU since 2013, previously as Assistant Professor and now as Associate Professor. Administrative roles include leadership in DBA programs and urban research initiatives.
Research interests span urban development, real estate finance, and health economics, with a focus on applying microeconomic principles to urban challenges. Her work has been published in journals like Journal of Development Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Regional Science and Urban Economics. She serves as Co-Editor of Regional Science and Urban Economics and on editorial boards of Journal of Urban Economics and Journal of Housing Economics.
Key awards include the Lee Kong Chian Fellowship (2016–2019) and Teaching Excellence Award (2015). She has secured multiple grants, including Singapore Ministry of Education Tier 3 and Tier 1 funding. Advised students include Xiao Lin Ong, Yifan Wu, and Naqun Huang, many of whom now hold roles in academia and government.
Led initiatives like the SMU Urban Institute’s Urban Growth Pillar and organized conferences such as the SMU-Jinan Conference on Urban and Regional Economics. Active in editorial and program committees for global economics associations, including AREUEA and UEA.
