Dr. Kyungjoon (Joon) Lim is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney's School of Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. He is a Fellow of Higher Education and serves as the Teaching Lead in Nursing. His research focuses on obesity-related hypertension, transgenerational programming of disease, and the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Lim holds a PhD from Monash University (2011) and completed postdoctoral training at the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute as an NHMRC Early Career Fellow.
His teaching expertise spans Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathophysiology across Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health disciplines. He has received multiple awards, including the 2023 University of Sydney Teaching Commendation and the 2019 La Trobe University Chancellor Teaching Award. His research has been funded by grants totaling over $600,000, including a 2022 University of Sydney Research Grant.
Key projects include investigating sympathetic nervous system contributions to hypertension in obesity and exploring BDNF's role in bridging metabolic syndrome and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. He collaborates internationally, including with Nebraska Medical Centre, and has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Lim is affiliated with The Centre for Drug Discovery Innovation, advancing translational research in his field.
