Prof. Kyriaki Polychronopoulou is a Full Professor at Khalifa University's College of Engineering and a Visiting Professor at ETH-Zurich. She founded the UAE's first Catalysis and Separation Center (CeCaS) and focuses on energy transition technologies including hydrogen production, CO2 conversion, and biofuels development.
- MSc Mechanical Engineering, University of Cyprus (2008)
- PhD Chemistry, University of Cyprus (2005)
- BSc Chemistry, University of Cyprus (2000)
Her research spans heterogeneous catalysis (H2, CO2, NH3, Biofuels), emphasizing reaction mechanisms, surface phenomena, and material microstructure. She integrates computational catalysis with experimental approaches and explores mechanochemistry for sustainable catalytic systems.
- Khalifa University Top 1 Journals Award 2021
- Commendation for Research 2018
- Fulbright Award 2007
- British Council Award 2008
Prof. Polychronopoulou supervises multiple PhD and MSc students in Materials Science and leads collaborative projects funded by UAE research agencies. Her work has been featured in Applied Catalysis B: Environmental and presented at the MRS Fall Conference. The CeCaS center she founded supports UAE's decarbonization goals through alternative fuels development and CO2 conversion technologies.
