Kyra Kietrys is Chair and Professor of Hispanic Studies at Davidson College, where she also serves as Director of Davidson in Madrid. With a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, she has been at Davidson since 2001, teaching across the Spanish curriculum from introductory language courses to senior capstones.
Her educational background includes:

Professor Kietrys specializes in literature and culture of contemporary Spain, with research focusing on women, gender, memory, and representation in 20th and 21st century Spain. Her interdisciplinary approach spans Gender and Sexuality Studies, Public Health, and Global Literary Theory. She empowers students to interpret various textual forms including literature, children's literature, graphic novels, and film to develop critical thinking skills.
Her scholarly work includes co-editing several collections of essays exploring Hispanic cultural connections, women writers in Spain, and gender studies within the Spanish literary tradition. Her publications demonstrate consistent engagement with issues of cultural identity, representation, and historical memory.
Professor Kietrys has established several international programs including the Davidson Summer Program in Cádiz (2002), the Davidson Semester Program in Madrid, and the Summer Teaching Internship in Spain. She also relaunched the Davidson SK8S program, connecting Davidson College students with local elementary school children for Spanish language instruction.
