Alba Carmona

Dr. Alba Carmona is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures, University of Leeds. She works on the EXODUS project, focusing on the legacy of Spanish Golden Age drama in Republican exile (1939–1975). Her research integrates Digital Humanities, Theatre Studies, and Film Studies to explore the modern reception of early modern Spanish theatre.

She applies innovative methodologies such as Social Network Analysis to study character networks in Lope de Vega’s plays, contributing to digital literary scholarship. Her work also emphasizes gender, exile, and cultural memory, with a strong commitment to public humanities through curated exhibitions and media engagement.

Her recent publications span topics including the influence of Soviet television on Spanish film, the role of women in Republican exile theatre, and the transnational dissemination of Golden Age drama. She has published in top journals like Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Hispanic Research Journal, and Modern Language Review.

Alba Carmona has supervised and mentored students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Spanish and Comparative Literature. (2021) and Los clásicos en las pantallas (2023), both at the Casa Museo Lope de Vega in Madrid. Her work bridges academic research and public engagement, fostering broader understanding of Spain’s theatrical heritage.
