Kylah Hedding is an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She specializes in political communication, environmental communication, and strategic communication, with a focus on water and energy policy, civic engagement, and advocacy organizations. Her research examines media and advocacy roles in politics and policy-making, particularly in Iowa's environmental and agricultural sectors.
Education: Ph.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2016).
Research interests include the intersection of media, science, and policy, with projects on local newspapers, community engagement, and alternative media influence. She teaches strategic and political communication courses and advises the UI chapter of PRSSA. Her recent work explores extreme weather preparedness and media ownership effects on news bias. Prior to academia, she worked 10+ years in strategic communication and public affairs in the water industry, including roles in Washington, D.C., and Denver.
