Joanna Krajewski is an Associate Professor of Instruction and Director of the Online MA in Strategic Communication at the University of Iowa's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. She holds a PhD in Mass Communication (2017) from the University of Iowa, an MPH in Community and Behavioral Health, and a BA in Communication Studies. Previously, she served as a professor and director of strategic communication at Flagler College. Her work bridges strategic communication with public health and water sustainability. She leads WaterWoman Sustainability Education, a nonprofit focused on water education. Professional interests include environmental risk communication, health campaigns, and the intersection of media and agriculture. She can be reached at joanna-krajewski@uiowa.edu.
Research focuses on strategic communication strategies for public health challenges, water sustainability advocacy, and the role of media in environmental policy debates. Notable projects include analyzing physician communication practices for febrile infants (2024), mindfulness app usage among emerging adults (2022), and the limitations of citizen journalism during health crises (2020). Her 2017 study examined conflicting media narratives around Iowa's water quality challenges.
She advises students through the Online MA program and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects combining communication theory with real-world sustainability initiatives. Drop-in hours are by appointment.
