Kun Qian is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (Isenberg School of Management) and previously at Southern University of Science and Technology (2022-2024). His research focuses on quantitative marketing, content economy dynamics, digital platforms, and behavioral economics. He holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of Texas at Dallas (2022), along with an MS in Marketing from the University of Arizona (2016) and a BBA in Accounting from Harbin Institute of Technology (2015).
Research interests include analyzing recommendation systems' impact on content creation, digital platform governance, star creator ecosystems, and gamification strategies in digital markets. His work has been recognized with awards such as the Scholar with High Distinction (UT Dallas, 2022) and AMA-Sheth Consortium Doctoral Fellow (2021).
Teaching expertise spans marketing analytics, digital marketing strategies, and social media marketing. Current affiliations include roles at UMass Amherst and prior positions at Southern University. His research often bridges theoretical frameworks with real-world platform behaviors, focusing on how design choices affect content producer incentives and consumer engagement.
