Kryn Stankunas

Dr. Kryn Stankunas is Professor of Biology at the University of Oregon, investigating chromatin dynamics and epigenetic control in vertebrate organ development and regeneration. His laboratory employs zebrafish and mouse models to study heart valve morphogenesis, bone regeneration, and signaling pathway integration with epigenetic regulators.

Current research programs:

• BAF chromatin remodeling in heart development
• Wnt/BMP signaling in appendage regeneration
• Chemical-genetic technologies for in vivo gene regulation

Stankunas co-developed TU-tagging for cell-type-specific transcriptome analysis, enabling high-resolution studies of gene regulation during organogenesis.
