معرفی
Sarah E. Millar, PhD is Director of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine and the Black Family Stem Cell Institute, Dean for Basic Science, and Lillian and Henry M. Stratton Professor in the Departments of Cell, Developmental and Regenerative Biology, Oncological Sciences, and Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Her educational background includes:
- BA from Cambridge University
- PhD from Imperial College, London University
Dr. Millar's research focuses on inter-cellular signaling, transcriptional, and epigenetic regulatory mechanisms in development, regeneration and stem cells of epithelial tissues. Her work spans diverse areas including Aging, Cancer, Cellular Differentiation, Chromatin, Dermatology, Developmental Biology, Epigenetics, Gene Regulation, Genetics, Genomics, Stem Cells, and Transcription Factors. She has made significant contributions to understanding Wnt signaling in skin development and regeneration.
Analysis of Dr. Millar's recent publications reveals a strong focus on ocular surface biology, stem cell populations, and epigenetic regulation. Her work integrates mouse models with human tissue analysis to understand fundamental mechanisms of epithelial development and regeneration, with particular emphasis on the roles of Wnt signaling and histone deacetylases.
Dr. Millar has received numerous scientific awards:
- NIH MERIT Award for her work on Wnt signaling in the skin
- 2017 William Montagna Lectureship Award of the Society for Investigative Dermatology
- 2019 Vice-President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology
- 2016 FOCUS Award for the Advancement of Women in Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
- 2013 Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) fellow, Drexel University College of Medicine
Dr. Millar serves as an Editorial Board member for Developmental Cell and Experimental Dermatology, and as a Senior Editor for the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. Her research has been supported by significant grants including an NIH MERIT Award. She has contributed extensively to the field through her leadership roles in professional societies and editorial positions.
Dr. Millar directs the Millar Lab (http://labs.icahn.mssm.edu/millarlab/), which focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating the development, patterning and postnatal renewal of the skin and ectodermal appendage organs. The lab investigates Wnt/beta-catenin signaling, epigenetic regulators including micro-RNAs and chromatin modifiers, and their roles in skin development, regeneration, and stem cell activity.
