Krithika Lingappan is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and an Attending Neonatologist at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Her research focuses on sex-specific differences in neonatal hyperoxic lung injury, aiming to develop individualized therapies for preterm infants.
- Education: PhD and MS in Clinical Scientist Training Program, Baylor College of Medicine; MBBS, Kilpauk Medical College, India.
- Certifications: Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Pediatrics, American Board of Pediatrics.
Research Interests: Dr. Lingappan investigates molecular mechanisms behind sex-based disparities in lung diseases like bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), with a focus on oxidative stress, cytochrome P450 enzymes, and epigenetic regulation in neonatal lung injury. Her work aligns with NIH mandates for sex-specific preclinical research.
Publications: Recent studies include roles of miRNA-30a, Wnt signaling, and GDF15 in hyperoxic lung injury and BPD. Articles emphasize transcriptomic and proteomic analyses, sex dimorphism, and maternal exposure effects.
Scientific Awards:
- Multiple 2019 awards: Women of Excellence, Young Investigator, Teaching Excellence (Baylor College of Medicine)
- 2016 Best Research Award, Neonatal Cardiopulmonary Biology Young Investigators' Forum
- 2012 Arnold J. Rudolph Award for Teaching and Scientific Integrity
- Multiple early-career medals in medicine (2002-2005)
Leadership & Memberships: Active in American Thoracic Society, Society of Toxicology, and Pediatric Academic Societies. Serves on editorial boards for AJP Lung Molecular and Cellular Physiology and NeoReviews.
