Professor Kristy de Salas is a Professor of ICT and Associate Head of Research at the University of Tasmania's School of Information and Communication Technology. She holds a PhD from the University of Tasmania (1997–2000) and has extensive academic roles, including Acting Head of School (2008) and Adjunct Researcher at CSIRO (2016–2018). Her research focuses on serious games, behavioral change interventions, ICT education, and digital health. She has supervised over 20 doctoral and masters students, with a strong emphasis on gamification, gaming disorder, and environmental sustainability.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Computing (First Class Honours, 1996) and a Bachelor of Economics (1993–1995). She is actively involved in non-academic roles such as Producer of Giant Margarita and Board Member of Apple Box Studios. Her funded projects include a $300,000 MS WorkSmart program and collaborations with organizations like Defence Science and Technology Group.
De Salas has authored over 85 publications, including high-impact articles on cognitive testing, loot box engagement, and ocean health. Her work emphasizes applying technology to solve complex societal challenges, such as improving public health and environmental stewardship. She has also developed innovative teaching methods, earning recognition for her contributions to learning and teaching innovation.
