Professor Kristine Langhoff is a Professor of Social Work at the University of Sussex’s Department of Social Work and Social Care, within the School of Education and Social Work. She holds a PhD and Master of Social Work from Arizona State University. Her research focuses on young people’s experiences of extra-familial harm, trauma-informed interventions, and participatory research methods. She leads the Sussex Social Change Hub and co-leads the European Social Work Research Association’s Special Interest Group for Social Work with Adolescents.

Research interests include creative methodologies, contextual safeguarding, and safeguarding responses to sexual violence and exploitation. She has led projects such as the AHRC-funded Imagining Resistance Project and the ESRC-funded Innovate Project. Her work emphasizes youth empowerment, parental partnerships, and systemic approaches to child welfare.
Grants include leadership roles in evaluating interventions like the Oasis Project and the Disrupting Exploitation Programme. She also advises the Mulberry Bush charity and has collaborated with organizations like the Children’s Society and YMCA.
Teaching spans BA/MA Social Work and Childhood and Youth Studies programmes, emphasizing trauma-informed practice and child protection. She supervises doctoral students exploring youth vulnerability and intervention strategies.
