Kristine Calo

Kristine Calo serves as Professor of Education and Chair of the Department of Education at Hood College, concurrently coordinating the Early Childhood Education program.

Her educational background includes:

• Ph.D. from George Mason University
• M.A. from DePaul University
• B.A. from DePauw University

With 25+ years of experience spanning classroom teaching, K-8 curriculum administration, and Title I school leadership, Dr. Calo specializes in Early Childhood Education and Literacy Development. Her research focuses on innovative teaching methodologies and professional development frameworks for educators.

She has significantly contributed to educational publishing through National Geographic's preschool-to-middle-school informational texts and co-creation of Curiosityville, an online personalized learning platform for children and families.

Dr. Calo previously coordinated Maryland and Ohio's early childhood professional development under the federal Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grant at Johns Hopkins, strengthening statewide teaching and assessment systems.

Her collaborative work involves interdisciplinary teams developing digital learning environments and educational resources, actively engaging with the Frederick community through Hood College initiatives.
