Kristina Paabus is a Professor of Studio Art and Director of the Oberlin Center for Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies (OCREECAS) at Oberlin College. She teaches courses in printmaking, including monotype, relief, screenprinting, and interdisciplinary capstone projects. Her research explores systems of power and control through the lens of Soviet and Post-Soviet histories, with a focus on reproducible media.
Paabus holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design (2000) and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2009). She has additional training in Fine Arts and Religious Studies from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Printmaking at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
Her work has been exhibited globally, including solo shows at Hobusepea Galerii (Estonia) and the McDonough Museum of Art (OH). She has received prestigious awards such as the Fulbright Fellowship and Grant Wood Fellowship, and has participated in over 20 artist residencies worldwide, including in Iceland, Estonia, China, and the U.S.
Paabus oversees the Oberlin College Print Lab and serves on boards for the Mid America Print Council and Zygote Press. Her artistic practice spans sculpture, installation, and printmaking, with notable works like *Dissolution* (2014) and *Speculative Proof* (2010).
