Kristin Veighey

Kristin Veighey is a NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in General Practice and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Southampton. She holds roles as Associate Director of the Southampton Academy of Research and Academic Career Development Lead for R&D Clinical Research Fellows. Her affiliations include the Primary Care Research Centre and collaborations with Primary Care and Public Health teams at the University.

She graduated with an MB ChB from Queens’ University Belfast (2004), completed a PhD in Clinical Pharmacology and Nephrology at University College London (2016), and holds MRCP (Neph) and FRCP qualifications. Her research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), multimorbidity, and acute kidney injury (AKI), with a particular interest in remote ischaemic preconditioning (RIPC) for renal protection.

Her publications span nephrology, genetics, and clinical trials, including work on the NIHR-MRC-funded REPAIR study. Collaborations include the Wessex Kidney Centre and the Renal Research Group in Southampton. She currently supervises three doctoral students in Primary Care and Health Sciences.
