Kristin's research integrates traditional women’s crafts like knitting with contemporary DIY culture to examine identity construction through environmental objects. Her Cozy Portraits series merges portraiture with wearable art, while Mother/Artist documents her journey through parenthood using autobiographical photography and conceptual installations. Collaborative works such as The Elegant Universe (with Denise Gillman) connect art to scientific theories like string theory.
Her recent artistic output includes major exhibitions at Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (2020), Galleri Urbane (2017), and Taubman Museum (2020), alongside international presentations in London and Florida. Themes of labor ethics, material culture, and identity permeate her Threads installation (2013) and Yawning Beagles (2019) series.
Scientific and artistic recognition includes:
- Professional Artist Fellowship, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (2016)
- Best in Show, Charles H. Taylor Arts Center (2016)
